The High Himalaya Details

He has been called "the most prolific and sensitive recorder of a rapidly vanishing natural world" (William Conway, former General Director, Wildlife Conservation Society). Now internationally acclaimed nature photographer Art Wolfe captures the magic of the world's most magnificent mountain landscape, the high Himalaya. In 150 photographs taken on journeys through Pakistan, India, Nepal, Tibet, and China, Wolfe presents the Himalaya in all its beauty and grandeur - not only the natural landscape, but also the human landscape and the people who inhabit both. Star tracks arc the night sky over a towering Mount Everest. The lines and textures of terraced mustard fields embroider the spare foothills. Many-hued prayer flags flap from the jumbled rooftops of Namche Bazaar. An old woman spins a prayer wheel near the Potala Palace. Kazahk horsemen sprint and weave in an ancient game played on the high Pamir Plateau, dust billowing.

Reviews

I've visited the himalayas and wanted to buy a book capaturing the beauty. While there is no question that the photos in this book have their own beauty, I found many of the pictures somewhat dull in colors, not very vivid. Many are in low light or cloudy conditions. While I'm sure some may like the book, I also believe there are other books that may satisfy the average person more. I bought this book after seeing a different book at a local store with immensely beautiful pictures of the Himalayas, but this book didn't do it for me. My advice is to check out the book at a local bookstore before buying to determine if it satisfies your taste.
